Every digital lending app, every neo-bank account, every merchant onboarding flow needs to answer one question with confidence: is this the right person, carrying the right documents, at this exact moment? Recspace exists to make that answer simple.
Recspace was founded after its early team spent years watching Indian lending companies struggle with the same problem — off-the-shelf KYC vendors were imported from elsewhere, and they treated Aadhaar as an afterthought. Accuracy on regional-language Aadhaar was poor. PAN cards with older layouts failed parsing. Driving licences across 36 state formats weren't supported. NBFCs were forced to run manual ops teams just to correct what the AI got wrong.
We believed India deserved KYC infrastructure built ground-up for Indian documents, Indian regulations, and Indian scale — not adapted from Western datasets with a thin localisation layer. So we started building.
An OCR model trained on a million American driver's licences will always be mediocre at reading a Bihar state DL. The fix isn't better marketing — it's a different training set.
Early product decisions flowed from that premise. The OCR model was retrained from scratch on Indian ID corpora. The face model was tuned to the demographic distribution we'd actually see in production. The masking engine was designed around RBI's specific Aadhaar-masking guidance and UIDAI's consent framework.
Equally important: we made compliance architecture, not decoration. Data never leaves India. Every customer gets a per-tenant KMS key. Every PII access is logged to an immutable ledger. SOC 2 Type II and ISO 27001 certifications are current, audited by independent firms — not marketing checkmarks.
Four years in, that bet has paid off. Our customers pass RBI inspections without KYC-related observations. Their fraud rates drop. Their onboarding conversion goes up. And their compliance teams sleep better.
These aren't values on a wall. They're decision filters we use when product trade-offs get hard.
We publish model accuracy numbers backed by independent test sets. When our model drifts, we flag it to customers before they notice. If a regulator asks for our methodology, we hand them the full spec.
SOC 2 Type II and ISO 27001 aren't badges on a landing page — they're the operating constraints we build within. Every feature ships with an audit trail designed first, code second.
When OCR confidence drops or a face match fails, we tell you exactly why — not a red flag and a shrug. Your ops team should know what to do next based on our response alone.
Every additional second of onboarding is a drop-off. We budget latency the way we budget accuracy — and when the two conflict, we discuss it with customers openly rather than ship one-size-fits-all defaults.
A KYC vendor shipping untested features is dangerous. We'd rather release fewer things, tested harder, than flood a roadmap with things customers have to debug in production.
When one of our customers faces an RBI visit, we treat that as a visit to us. We show up. We supply documentation. We explain model methodology. Because their compliance is our compliance.
